On the 19th of April at 5:41 pm Meagher County Fire was paged to a prescribed fire which had got away from the landowner. The landowner had been burning sage brush and the wind shifted and the fire crossed the line. Fire Chief Rick Seidlitz, Engine 112 with Shane Sereday and David Collins, D.N.R.C. Engine 1872 with Otto Ohlson and Tim Collins, County Road Tender with Ray Ringer responded to the fire.

Upon arriving at the scene it was found the fire had run into a steep coulee and was running in heavy sage brush. Engine 112 started working the North end of the fire and Engine 1872 worked the South end of the fire. Fire volunteers Chuck Lucas, Ron Collins and Ed Kiff arrived from Ringling area and assisted the engine crews.

With the dedicated work of several volunteers the fire was extinguished at 7:40 pm, and crews headed home. Looks like it could be an interesting fire season.

Remember if you’re going to burn call into the Meagher County Dispatch at 547-3397. If the fire department is called to a fire that is under your control and there is no burning permit, you could be sent a bill to pay for that response.
